Sierra Club announced today that it was endorsing Emily Francis for Senate in the hotly contested 10th Senate district which represents portions of the City of Richmond and Chesterfield County and all of Powhatan County. The 10th District Senate seat, currently held by retiring Senator John Watkins, is one of a handful of Senate districts that could determine control of the Senate in the November election. Three Democrats are vying for the nomination in a June 9th Primary.
“Sierra Club believes that Emily will put the interests of people and the environment ahead of special interest lobbyists,” said Glen Besa, Director of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club. “That’s what she’s done as a non-profit professional, and we are confident she will continue to do that in the Senate.”
“The Sierra Club does not typically endorse in primaries,” said Besa, “but Emily is an exceptional candidate who we felt deserved our support.”
